We are going to buy some food first, after that we want to check timetables of ferry which goes to Lofoten. When we get the tables right, we are choosing Moskenesøya as destination we want to go. We planned to go to Værøya first, but we lost a day in Oslo because of the canceled train, so we have to move on. Værøya is the island located just south of Lofoten. We are having a breakfast and relaxing in the harbor, we have some 3 hours to wait. It's really warm and sunny there, about 25°C quite uncommon there. I'm not feeling well, so i'm staying at harbor, Stepan goes to the town.
Large travel ship is arriving to the harbor, named Midnatsol - Midnight sun. A lot of people are getting of the ship and they have smile on their face, wheeled suitcase in hand and they seem to be happy.
Stepan is back and after a while some ferry is arriving. We are asking others where it goes, but nobody knows, so we are going in and asking there. The ferry goes to Værøya. We have a dilema again, we would really like to see Værøya.
Finally we are staying on the board and going to this island. :) The way to Værøya takes two hours more than directly to Moskenesøya. To Værøya, the ferry goes first to Røst, which is about 20km south of Værøya, after that to Værøya, which is about 20km south of Lofoten. There are strong currents between the islands. But at all, the way to Værøya isn't that more expencive.
On the board, we are relaxing, charging our cell phones, and checking the weather online. Once in a while we are going on the upper deck. We are floating around some rocks, mountains with snow on the tops. Seagulls are flying around us, the sky is clear, strong sun, fresh air and sea wind. Beautiful.
The sail is nice and smooth, I'm really enjoying it. Some bigger flat island appeared and after a while, the ferry has a stop at Røst island. Røst is small, with population of about 600 residents. It doesn't look like it from ferry. It's about 4 square km big. The island produces fish and fish-related products. There are boarding some teenagers from Røst, they seem to be ok :) everyone has iPhone and iPad.
When the ferry sails from Røst, we can clearly see Værøy, it seems to be quite small from the distance, we are really looking forward there.
After the arrival we are trying to find some timetables because we want to know when to come back to catch the ferry. But we didn't find anything. So we are heading to the place we chose for camping.
My first feeling from there, it seems like start of the summer there, everything is bloom, a lot of flowers and grass there, only no trees. The sky is crystal clear and there are shining grassy green hills on the horizon.
We are going through the village, there are also wooden houses with nice gardens, in front of the house parked truck, the most common is Chevrolet. It seems elder people live there.
We're
going on the main road with heavy backpacks and we're bushed. The place
where we wanted to camp seems to be tree nursery. After a moment almost
at the end of village on the left side we see a rocky road leading
somewhere to the sea. The road goes to stone quarry, but from there is a
little path goes near the rocky beach called Hagmolla. The beach is
about 500m long and it has some flat places with nice grass also. We are
going there, it looks like great place to camp. And it really is!
We have tent of quite bright color, but we are about 1500m from nearest house so it should be ok. We set tent
and made a dinner. We are relaxing and glad to be here. After a meal i
am going to wash a kettle, because i want to go to sea. The rocks are
grown by seaweed and pretty slippery, so i have to go far. The sea is so clear, with white sand, but the water is pretty cold.
The way to the camping place is also across the rocks and i am jumping
on them. There are a lot of sea urchin seashells, fishing nets, ropes,
pieces of wood and more others. We are going to sleep and we have a lot of warm clothes on, because we are sleeping beyond the Circle for the first time. It's not easy to sleep because the light.
